Mario Troncoso is a 12-time Emmy® award-winning filmmaker and founder of The Documentary Society (Doculab). With over 18 years of extensive broadcasting and digital production experience, Mario has worked on projects across many formats ranging from advertising to documentaries and fiction.
BEHIND THE CAMERA
Mario has spent most of his career documenting the lives and creative processes of hundreds of artists while making art of his own. Most recently, he produced and directed six seasons of the award-winning documentary series Arts In Context (PBS). Mario’s new series, Wonder: Art Is The Way is an intimate look into a generation of extraordinary artists transforming the world in unexpected and beautiful ways.

Mario Troncoso has garnered 40 Emmy® Awards nominations, and 12 wins, including for Outstanding Topical Documentary, Arts & Entertainment program, Current Affairs program, Cultural Documentary, Environmental program, Special Event Coverage, and Youth & Children Program. Most recently he was honored by the National Press Association's Best of Photojournalism awards in the Documentary Editing and the best of Documentary Long Form categories. In 2015 Mario was the recipient of the prestigious ESB-MACC Award of Excellence for Emerging Artist. This award recognizes remarkable Latinos who have demonstrated distinguished service, leadership, dedication, outstanding performance, and a lasting contribution to the highest artistic excellence they bring to the cultural arts of Austin.
